Disease is a spiritual attack! | davidschirmer.com

Last time I was in hospital was 23 years ago.  I was a lucerne farmer in Biloela, Central Queensland, Australia.

I am the third eldest of seven children.  We grew up on the family cattle station (ranch) and we were expected to work from a young age.  None of this 'city-kids' stuff where all they did was go to school, come home and bludge ... we had to work.

We arrived home at 4pm from school (a one hour bus trip each way) and we had half an hour to get changed, have smoko (afternoon tea), and be down the paddock ready to start picking tomatoes or driving the tractor or branding cattle.  That was many afternoons and all day Saturday from about seven years old until I left home!

My Dad believed that school time was for school and home time was for work and family.  We had a standing note with the school why we didn't have our homework done.  If there was work to do homework from school never got a look in.  We never pretended to be sick to have a day off school otherwise we knew we had to work at home!  What a concept for today’s kids and adults!

Being sick was not an option.  You had to be really sick to not help out – each person had to pull their weight.

At 23 I was driving the tractor and I got a massive pain in my side.  I was whisked off to hospital where they diagnosed I had acute appendicitis.  I was operated on immediately and had my appendix taken out … that was the last time I was in hospital … until last week!

I started coughing about 3 weeks ago.  I’m not the type of person who takes time off work because I don’t feel well – one of the biggest wastes of money in our current society is paid sick leave - it’s an absolute disgrace (I don't mean real sick leave, I mean the fake ones).  Too many people goof off because they don’t feel 100% ... trouble is they get paid to take 'sickies'.  Wouldn’t it be better if we paid people to be well.

Well, my cough got worse and worse until I was having some difficulty breathing.  I believe in faith healing according to God's Word and speaking out health regardless of the circumstances.  Still the cough was getting the better of me so I decided to see a doctor.  He gave me some antibiotics and other stuff and sent me home to rest.

My cough got worse, I hadn't slept for days, I had no desire to eat, I was coughing until I almost blacked out, I started to dry reach, every muscle in my body was aching and I was fighting to breath ... by this time my wife was getting very worried!!

I went to see the doctor on Saturday morning and he straight away referred me to hospital to get a chest x-ray.  Before I knew it I was in a hospital bed with a drip in my arm, oxygen up my nose and a ventilan gas mask on.  The body had said "That’s enough, time for a rest!"

Over the next few days I rested and recovered.  I continued to speak out healing scriptures and study the Word of God.  The doctor was amazed by how fast I bounced back which I can only put down to speaking out healing scriptures and prayer.

Often people blame God for sickness and that will always inhibit them recovering rapidly or at all.  Sure, all disease along with health, poverty, abundance, sadness, happiness are created first in the spirit realm before they are manifest in the mental and physical realms.  We allow access to it whether it is good or bad for us.  However God cannot give what He doesn’t have!  I don’t believe sickness or disease is from God but rather from satan.  John 10:10 says that satan comes only to steal, kill and destroy - he is the father of deception and lies and disease.  Jesus said "I come to give you life and give you life more abundantly."  Of course many personal development guru’s deny the existence of satan however they can never fully explain sickness, natural disasters or death.

This understanding along with the knowledge of the authority of a believer (in Jesus Christ) and awareness of how the spirit, mind and body functions together is the most powerful tool against any spiritual attacks (Eph 6:12).

Does getting sick mean you don’t have faith?  Absolutely not!

Sickness & disease is always a spiritual cause manifested in the physical body.  However, we do allow access on the spirit realm to sickness & disease by our thoughts ... thoughts such as stress, hopelessness, lack of vision, lack of care for the body, words and emotions that are destructive such as anger, hatred, revenge, jealously, superstition, fear and greed.

Hmmm … something to think about.

Here is a great little book on healing is "God's Creative Power For Healing" by Charles Capps.  Send me an email with the title in the subject line and I'll send you a copy for free. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
